Before real estate, I poured that passion into a middle school math classroom, setting high expectations and creating a structured environment where my students thrived. I loved seeing the lightbulb go on when a complex idea finally clicked. My students had the highest standardized test scores in the department, but my methods weren’t always popular with an administration focused on trends over results.
I was once told I “wasn’t doing what was best for kids.” That comment, and the politics that followed, extinguished my love for the classroom. I was devastated, but as it turns out, it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
That setback pushed me into a new arena: real estate. And it didn’t take long for the teacher in me to spot a massive, systemic problem. I saw investors and agents, smart, driven people, consistently losing deals at the last minute. The reason was always the same: a surprise on the title report.
My “aha moment” was simple: Why is everyone waiting until the end to look at the most important part of the deal? Why put pen to paper and money on the line before you even know if the seller has the right to sell or if a major title defect is going to derail the entire deal?
This question became my obsession. I didn’t just want to be a Realtor; I wanted to understand the system from the inside out. I earned my Title Examiner license, not just as a credential, but as a tool to help my clients. It allowed me to dig into the history of a property, to see the story that the paperwork was telling.
